From our Pastor's Desk

Jesus Christ is Risen! Happy Easter to all. Today we experience Jesus’ victory over death. What joy in knowing that God’s love is stronger than death! The resurrection of Jesus adorns us with a new life of glory. The Heart of our gentle Savior was so aflame with desire for our salvation that He generously shared with us His glory. In His redemption, Our Savior’s love, stronger than death, overflows, melts our hearts, and transforms us. In coming into this world, He raised our nature higher than all the angels, and when transformed, He makes us so like Himself that we may even say we resemble God. In becoming one of us, Our Savior took on our likeness and gave us His.

In today’s Gospel, we heard that Mary Magdalene went early to the tomb of Jesus. Mary Magdalene was hurting all over. She had experienced the healing and liberating love of Jesus; she discovered the joy and meaning of life. And now, everything is gone. Her Master is buried in the tomb. Early in the morning on the first day of the week, she went to the tomb expecting to see a dead body. And she was all the more devastated to discover that the tomb was empty. She thought someone took the body of the Lord away. Her sorrow was turned to resentment and indignation. Even the dead body is gone. Now she is left with nothing.

But something happened in an instant. When she bent over into the tomb, she saw two angels. And when she turned around, she saw Jesus standing there. All of a sudden, everything changed. Jesus was not dead after all. He is alive! That explains the empty tomb. He cannot be subject to corruption. The tomb has no power to hold him. With finality, He has conquered sin and death. For, indeed, He is true God. He is our true Savior. And so, we say, “We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world.”

The Holy Triduum

The Holy Triduum

The Holy Triduum is the most sacred time of the Church’s liturgical year. The word Triduum comes from Latin and means “three days.” These three days—Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday—lead us into the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

Although we speak of three days, the Church understands the Triduum as one continuous liturgy, one great mystery that unfolds over time. It begins on the evening of Holy Thursday and reaches its fulfillment in the joy of Easter.

The Triduum invites us not simply to remember what Jesus did, but to enter into these saving events—to walk with Him from the Last Supper, to the Cross, and finally to the empty tomb.

The Holy Triduum is not just something we observe—it is something we are invited to live. By participating in these sacred liturgies, we deepen our relationship with Christ and experience the mystery of His love in a profound way.

Holy Thursday

The Gift of the Eucharist and Service

Holy Thursday begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, where we remember the night Jesus gathered with His disciples before His Passion. On this night, Jesus gave the Church three great gifts:

  • The Holy Eucharist, His Body and Blood
  • The priesthood, to continue His mission
  • The commandment of love and service.

During the Mass, the washing of feet teaches us that true love is humble, sacrificial, and poured out in service to others.

At the end of the liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession to a place of repose. The altar is stripped, and the Church enters into a time of quiet watchfulness, recalling Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Good Friday

The Passion of the Lord

Good Friday is the day we commemorate the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. It is a day marked by silence, fasting, and prayer. The Church does not celebrate Mass on this day. Instead, we gather for the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord, which includes:

  • The proclamation of the Passion Gospel
  • The Veneration of the Cross
  • Holy Communion

As we approach the Cross, we are reminded that Christ freely gave His life out of love for us. What appears to be suffering and loss is, in fact, the source of our salvation.

Holy Saturday and the Easter Vigil

From Darkness to Light

Holy Saturday is a day of quiet waiting. The Church remains at the tomb of the Lord, reflecting on His Passion and death. After nightfall, we celebrate the Easter Vigil, the most solemn and beautiful liturgy of the year.

The Vigil begins in darkness, where a new fire is kindled and the Paschal Candle is lit, symbolizing Christ, the Light of the World. This light spreads through the congregation, illuminating the church. The Vigil includes:

  • Readings that tell the story of salvation history
  • The celebration of Baptism and Confirmation
  • The renewal of our baptismal promises
  • The joyful proclamation of the Resurrection

At last, we rejoice in the Good News: Christ is risen! He is truly risen!

Promise To Protect - Pledge To Heal

This year we are focusing on the beginning stages of potential abuse where we are not alerted to abuse, necessarily, but rather to inappropriate behavior that often precedes abuse or the attempt of abuse. Grooming is the deliberate manipulation tactic predators use to gain trust.

There are three types of grooming: Physical, Psychological, and Community. Learning to recognize grooming signs is the best way to prevent abuse from happening. Over the next few weekends in April we will present some defining elements of grooming.

If you know of abuse or have a healthy suspicion of abuse, call DCF at
