1. Glorifying God by serving in my parish ministry is the purpose of my salvation:
   God has placed you in your parish in order that you might be edified (built up) so that you might work for and serve Him. To remain sedentary is to neglect God’s very purpose for our salvation. By serving, I behave like Jesus and glorify Him.
2. I have been uniquely gifted to serve:
   Several Bible passages help us to understand the concept of spiritual gifts. Among them are Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4. In these chapters we learn how God graciously and supernaturally favors each believer with his own distinct ministry gift!
   What a privilege is ours!
3. Ministry service will demonstrate the reality of my faith:
   Nobody said it more poignantly than James when he taught us that faith is not primarily about what we know (or have heard), and it is not primarily about what we say. Quite simply, faith without works is dead.
4. The laborers are few:
   You have heard it before: The Gospels only record one prayer request from our Lord Jesus. “Pray for laborers!” If you are not already involved, somebody somewhere is praying for you to become involved in the ministry. The need is greater than ever. The fields are whiter than ever. Laborers are as relatively few as ever.
5. Children tend to emulate what they see, not what they hear:
   When Jesus selected His apostles, He chose them to be “with Him.” How significant. Ministry is more often “caught” than “taught.” Teaching is most effective when doing on the part of the teacher precedes it.
6. The commission is great?
   Remember, what Jesus commissioned us to do is what He demonstrated Himself time and again in His personal ministry. Jesus always saw people. In the desperation of their need and in the fragility of their faith, He saw them. Social status, ethnic background, sullied reputation, gender, race, or age—nothing precluded Jesus’ involvement in the lives of others.
7. Ministry involvement enhances biblical understanding:
   Understanding the Bible involves a commitment to obey Jesus. He was careful to point this out to His over-educated critics, “If any man will do God’s will, he shall know of the doctrine…” (John 7:17).
8. Doing anonymous or little-noticed things for the Lord is like whispering, “I love You” in His ear:
   For us believers, the boss is always watching. But our motivation is not one of duty or fear. He loves us, and we love Him! What we do is of inestimable value because He orders us to it, energizes us in it, and rewards us for it!
9. I will forge long-lasting and valuable friendships:
   One of the major fringe benefits of working for the Lord is the culturing of genuine friendships. Those to whom we feel the closest in life are typically those with whom we work.
10. I will stand before the Lord:
    He loves me. He died for me. He has given me purpose. Only what is done for Him matters. I will meet Him face to face. Someday. Maybe today.

1. Glorificar a Dios sirviendo en mi ministerio parroquial es el propósito de mi salvación:
   Dios te ha puesto en tu parroquia para que seas edificado (construido) y puedas trabajar para Él y servirle. Permanecer sedentario es descuidar el propósito mismo de Dios para nuestra salvación. Al servir, me comporto como Jesús y lo glorifico.
2. He recibido dones únicos para servir:
   Varios pasajes bíblicos nos ayudan a comprender el concepto de los dones espirituales. Entre ellos se encuentran Romanos 12, 1 Corintios 12, y Efesios 4. En estos capítulos aprendemos cómo Dios, en su gracia y de manera sobrenatural, favorece a cada creyente con su propio don ministerial.

3. El servicio ministerial demostrará la realidad de mi fe:
   Nadie lo dijo con más conmoción que Santiago al enseñarnos que la fe no se trata principalmente de lo que sabemos (o hemos oído), ni de lo que decimos. En pocas palabras, la fe sin obras está muerta.
4. Los trabajadores son pocos:
   Ya lo han oído: Los Evangelios solo registran una petición de oración de nuestro Señor Jesús: "¡Oren por más obreros!" Si aún no participas, alguien en algún lugar está orando para que te involucres en un ministerio. La necesidad es mayor que nunca. Los campos están más blancos que nunca. Los obreros son tan escasos como siempre.
5. Los niños tienden a imitar lo que ven, no lo que oyen:
   Cuando Jesús seleccionó a sus apóstoles, los eligió para estar "con Él". ¡Qué significativo! El ministerio se "captura" más a menudo que se "enseña". La enseñanza es más efectiva cuando la acción del maestro la precede.
6. La gran comisión:
   Recuerden, lo que Jesús nos encargó hacer es lo que Él mismo demostró una y otra vez en su ministerio personal. Jesús siempre veía a las personas. En la desesperación de su necesidad y en la fragilidad de su fe, las veía. Ni su estatus social, origen étnico, reputación manchada, género, raza ni edad impedían que Jesús se involucrara en la vida de los demás.
7. La participación en el ministerio mejora la comprensión bíblica:
   Comprender la Biblia implica un compromiso de obedecer a Jesús. Él tuvo cuidado de señalar esto a sus críticos muy letrados: “El que quiera hacer la voluntad de Dios, conocerá la doctrina…” (Juan 7:17).
8. Hacer cosas anónimas o poco notorias por el Señor es como susurrarle “Te amo” al oído:
   Para nosotros, los creyentes, el jefe siempre está observando. Pero nuestra motivación no es el deber ni el miedo. ¡Él nos ama y nosotros lo amamos a Él! Lo que hacemos es de inestimable valor porque Él nos lo ordena, nos da la gracia para hacerlo y nos recompensa por ello.
9. Forjaré amistades duraderas y valiosas:
   Uno de los mayores beneficios adicionales de trabajar para el Señor es cultivar amistades genuinas. Aquellos con quienes nos sentimos más cercanos en la vida suelen ser aquellos con quienes trabajamos.
10. Me presentaré ante el Señor:
    Él me ama. Murió por mí. Me ha dado un propósito. Solo importa lo que hago por Él. Lo veré cara a cara. Algún día. Quizás hoy.

Jesus asks us to come spend time with him. When he asked the apostles to come pray with him, it is because he wanted their presence and company. In the same way today, he invites us to come be with him. When we come into his presence, graces are given. When graces are given to us, we are less inclined to sin and more inspired to do the will of our Father. At the same time, when we are with Jesus, he will shower his blessings onto our families because his love overflows from us into our community. And, when we are with Jesus in front of the Blessed Sacrament, all the angels and saints are with us as we are in the “eternal now” and all of these visits are remembered by our Lord God.

If you are with the Lord, imagine the peace that will come since you are with the Prince of Peace. He is greater than any struggle or problem we can bring to him, so He invites us to leave the struggle with him which gives us a renewed peace. And, since he wants us to cooperate with his graces, the holy hour will often reveal answers to situations that we are pondering. He gives us peace and often gives us answers. When we receive the answers, the answers may seem difficult. However, when we spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, he gives us the strength and fortitude to do what we know we must do. In private prayer, I may know the answer and I may ask for the strength to do what must be done, but in front of the Blessed Sacrament, he can give us this strength since he is there with us. We have the ability to be resolute in our decision.

Another great benefit is that it improves our relationship with the one we hope to spend eternity with. Our prayer becomes more a part of who we are and helps us integrate our prayer into our day-to-day decisions and life we live. It gives us more sincerity and depth to our prayer life and teaches us a multitude of ways to pray. We are able to listen to Jesus (since we will eventually run out of things to say) and then he can fortify our belief and knowledge of how much he loves us; that He, the Father, created us and that we in turn should truly love ourselves and know that our love for ourselves will call us to be more for others who God also loves and therefore we love more deeply. He will tell us and we will know the purpose of our lives and the way He is calling us to live our lives. Through this deeper understanding of prayer, we will come to better understand the important things in life and spend more time focusing on them in prayer and in action and know the things that are distractions and give them their due priority and attention.

We will desire to come to prayer more often and to make our Holy Hour more often, which will be like tithing our time: the more time we give to the Lord, the more time we will have for what we need to do. This keeps us from stressing on how busy we are or how full our calendar is because the Lord is helping us get done what He knows is most important.

So, come to the place where the Lord will help us know Him, know ourselves, give Him our worries, relax, find peace, know our purpose, have the courage to do what is asked by Him and leave knowing we are doing His will helping others find their relationship with the Lord. Jesús nos invita a pasar tiempo con Él. Cuando pidió a los apóstoles que vinieran a orar con Él, fue porque deseaba su presencia y compañía. De la misma manera, hoy nos invita a estar con Él. Otro gran beneficio es que mejora nuestra relación con la persona con quien esperamos pasar la eternidad. Nuestra oración se vuelve más parte de nosotros y nos ayuda a integrarla en nuestras decisiones diarias y en nuestra vida. Nos da más sinceridad y profundidad a nuestra vida de oración y nos enseña múltiples maneras de orar. Podemos escuchar a Jesús (ya que tarde o temprano nos quedaremos sin que decirle) y entonces él puede fortalecer nuestra creencia y conocimiento de cuánto nos ama; que Él, el Padre, nos creó y que, a su vez, debemos amarnos verdaderamente a nosotros mismos y saber que nuestro amor por nosotros mismos nos llamará a ser más para los demás, a quienes Dios también ama y, por lo tanto, amamos más profundamente. Él nos dirá, y conoceremos el propósito de nuestras vidas y cómo nos llama a vivirlas. Registering in your parish is an important first step to becoming an active member in the local church community. Registration brings with it tangible benefits that can help a person become more fully engaged in the local church and may help immigrants in future immigration law-related matters.

Registering in one’s local parish is generally not a common practice for Catholics in Latin America and Europe. However, it is common practice in the United States and therefore important for immigrants too since it offers a variety of benefits.

Below are some reasons to register:

• Establishes evidence of your presence in the United States. It is not unusual for immigrants, including those who are undocumented, to have to provide evidence to immigration authorities of continuous presence in the U.S. Registering with your parish is a quick and easy step to help document the number of years you have resided in this country.
• Provides proof of sacramental participation. If a person receives any of the sacraments in a parish, registration provides a clear and straightforward way to keep track of this information. Conveniently, proof of sacramental participation can easily be passed from one parish to the next if one moves.
• Offers spiritual benefits. After registering with a parish, it is more likely that a person will participate fully in the life of the parish and to find a spiritual family. Families will feel less alone and more supported in times of joy and in times of sorrow. Immigrants will come to know more U.S. citizens on a close basis and feel more secure in this country. In times of difficulty, a parish family can offer crucial material and spiritual assistance. Parishioners will find many opportunities to grow in love of God and of neighbor, and will be surrounded by some excellent role models who will help them navigate the complexities of life in the U.S.
• Demonstrates community involvement. Registration in the parish provides an opportunity to participate in and become an established member of the local parish community. This has a variety of benefits that extend beyond participation at weekly Mass.
  1.Becoming involved in the local parish helps one become acquainted with other parishioners and the parish priests. Should a person experience any immigration related problems with local or federal law enforcement, the local parish priests and fellow parishioners will be able to provide a letter of good moral character.
  2.Through any community involvement that follows, a parishioner can demonstrate the positive ways in which she has served the parish and the local community. This can function as a useful tool to further demonstrate good moral character and an interest in contributing to the community.
  3.As a registered member of the local parish an individual will have the opportunity to help organize and promote the celebration of traditional religious festivals.
• Provides financial and educational benefits. Registering in the local parish will often bring with it additional benefits that could help family members. For example, registration could provide a credit or subsidy that can be used for your children at local parochial schools. This could reduce the cost of tuition and help a parishioner’s child receive both the educational advantages and spiritual formation that come with attending a Catholic school.
• Demonstrates financial commitment. Contributing with regular, recurring offerings, either online or using the envelope provided, demonstrates a weekly financial commitment to the Church. It is important to emphasize, however, that registering at the parish does not require a parishioner to give financial contributions; nor are individuals expected to provide large contributions.

The sanctity of work

Sister Clare Hunter is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist based in Meriden, Connecticut. She currently serves her community as a member of the General Council. She currently serves as the Assistant to the Dean of Human Formation, and is on faculty at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. Previously, Sister served in the Diocese of Arlington as the director of the Respect Life Office, and has worked in Campus Ministry and taught high school.

She is a national speaker on life issues, human sexuality, marriage and family life, and numerous theological and spiritual topics. In our parish, Sister will be speaking to the Catholic Business Network about how work can be sanctified, being a means towards holiness, when properly carried out.

Sister graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Corporate Communication and Media; the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family with a Masters in Theological Studies; and Houston’s University of St. Thomas with a Master in Education Administration. She is currently a candidate for the Doctorate of Ministry at the Catholic University of America.
